The Fiji Secondary Schools National Finals will take place this Saturday with 13 teams from around the country set to battle it out at Suva’s Albert Park grounds.
Tailevu, Nadi, Serua and Suva will be represented at the tournament and will see a number of national U19 squad members getting the opportunity to get some game time before final selections.
The finals will also see the return of the Girls Division following its successful debut last year. ACS will return as favorites and will face strong competition from central division strongholds, Gospel High and Ratu Sukuna Memorial School.
Cricket Fiji walked away with a Bronze medal at the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby and have put in a lot of emphasis on developing the game with our female cricketers. The inaugural Secondary Schools Girls competition brought through a healthy number of players to which has carried onto domestic level successfully.
The west will also feature two schools with Nadi Sangam and Natabua High School looking to rebuild schools cricket in the western division.
Cricket Fiji, Western Development Officer, Sekove Ravoka has worked hard on reviving cricket in the west and after the success of the Nadi team at the 2017 Easter Competition, he will look at continuing their form at school’s level and eventually developing further with more schools eyed to compete in future events.
Play begins at 9:30am on Saturday and commence Tailevu power houses QVS and RKS teeing things off at Albert Park.
